Jim Henderson: Founder of Vineyard Community Church, Off The Map, and Jim Henderson Presents
Years ago, there was a TV program called “The Naked City” in which stories of New York city were told. Each story ended with “There are eight million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them.” In the continuing line of stories there are millions, I am sure. I have only told a few of them. Here are some additional short ones. Jim Henderson Jim Henderson, co-founder of Off The Map, friend, pioneer, and founding Pastor of Vineyard Community Chuirch, has said that evangelism has too high of a bar to get over for ordinary people to get involved. Jim was tired of living on the map. Maps, by the way, are for people to have, to show places where someone has already been. To be off the map is to be living where others may not have been yet by imagining what another way of sharing the good news of the Kingdom could be like. So, in his own words, he says, “I have buried the bar so deep that you can’t even find it with a metal detector.” He believes that “ordinary Christians” should be participating in “doable” evangelism and has written a book to that focus called, a.k.a ‘LOST:’ Discovering Ways to Connect With The People That Jesus Misses Most, now titled Evangelism Without Additives: What if sharing your faith meant just being yourself? He asked questions like: What if you didn't have to make a speech in order to “witness?” What if you could use everyday experiences to nudge others closer to Jesus? What if the things you are already doing counted as evangelism? Making connections is important to make conversation. What if every “ordinary” Christian lived out this part of the Story in his or her life? Jim has chosen to live in a different story of evangelism. Jim now heads Jim Henderson Presents (JHP), which he launched in 2010. Jim’s mission is to Take Jesus Public. Jim is also the author of The Resignation of Eve: What If Adams Rib Is No Longer Willing to Be the Churchs Backbone?
